With the glut of so-called dystopian fiction on the YA market lately, it’s clear that many publishers are throwing the label around willy-nilly, perhaps because it sounds better than “post-apocalyptic science fiction”, which is what most of these books really are. But what IS a dystopia, really?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

I didn’t get much done, blogging- and reading-wise, last week. I’m still stuck – yes, STUCK! – on Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter – WHEN WILL THIS BOOK END?!! It’s not a bad book, not at all, but it’s just so dense and slow and the sheer fact that it’s taking me forever to read it is making me hate it just a little bit.

Well it was my birthday last Friday, and to celebrate we went out on Saturday to see Skyfall (excellent btw) and have dinner. I confess my meal was a bit of a disappointment – it was an Italian restaurant Adam wanted to try, and I ordered the breaded veal with greens – the veal was fine, but turned out “greens” meant “cover the plate in lettuce”. Veal… and lettuce. Not exactly a meal, and while I’m sure you’re meant to order a dish from every course, if they’d put “veal with lettuce” on the menu, I would have planned it out better – or probably picked a different restaurant! Ah well.

I posted my Monthly Recap for November yesterday, and soon I’ll be putting up the December = Iceland post for the Around the World challenge, as well as updating the 2013 sign-up post with the 12 countries to visit next year, so stay tuned!

For the Book Bloggers Holiday Card Exchange, I’ll be sending a card to Memory who blogs at Stella Matutina. Another thing to add to my to-do list! 🙂

I Read:

A Royal Pain by Megan Mulry (Chick-lit, 4/5)

I Reviewed:

Risking it All by Jennifer Schmidt (Romance, 4/5)
Heartless by Gail Carriger (Urban Fantasy, 3/5)
Unmasking Maya by Libby Mercer (Chick-lit/Romance, 4/5) – review to be posted 15th December

Currently Reading:

So yes, I’m still slogging through Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, and as much as I’m tempted to give up on it and simply move on, I find that I can’t: if I do, I won’t be able to finish any book I read, because it’ll still be hanging over me. And I am reading it for my own challenge, so I feel like I should try and finish it. Plus I’m curious about how it’ll end. It’s not really going anywhere, not much is happening, but I still want to know how it ends.

What’s Next:

Books I plan to read in December include:
