It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. As she says, it’s “a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!”
Oh boy, it’s been over two weeks since I last posted but it feels like a lot longer! I don’t even know where to start, but long story short, we moved, we flew (four planes), we arrived safely (though not wholly unscathed: awful motion sickness for me), and we’ve spent the last week and a half rushing around trying to sort shit out. With a weak if working internet connection and poor mobile phone reception. It hasn’t been pretty and it’s not over yet, but it can really only go up from here. Poor Hugh is missing his neat routine, his friends, his home, his sense of stability (not to mention unstressed parents), plus he’s teething and, I think, going through a bit of a growth spurt or something. It’s not surprising he’s being awfully clingy and gets a bit panicky if he’s away from me for too long – not something I’m used to, he’s never been like this before really, but I sympathise.
We did make it to the beach one day last week, which was lovely (this is at Shearwater on the north coast of Tassie, in the inlet/harbour part which is nice and sheltered):
At the moment I’m at my brother’s rather swanky-looking flat in North Hobart, making use of the better location (my wifi modem, better reception). Still, I’m having awful trouble with Goodreads lately. I haven’t been able to connect properly since I left Canada, it just constantly signs me in and nothing I’ve managed to do actually saves. I use Safari and have never had any problems until now, but I just tried it in Chrome and that seems to work. But I shouldn’t have to switch between the two!! I thought maybe the internet connection just wasn’t strong enough at Mum and Dad’s, but I can log into my bank account and that needs a more secure connection, and it’s not working in the city either. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I’m very behind on regular posting, not just reviews. The only thing I posted since my last “It’s Monday” post, aside from the few reviews listed below, was the winner of the In Falling Snow giveaway. I owe a review link-up post for the Around the World in 12 Books Challenge, plus my Monthly Recap post for September (though it was a pretty weak reading month!). It’s been challenging, getting things done, finding time (and space) to do my own things. Sigh. But I love being back in Tasmania, it makes me feel whole again, and I’ll find an even keel again soon I’m sure.

I wanted something fun and sweet to read because I’m just not able to concentrate on anything very heavy at the moment, and Mum really enjoyed this one – well she was right! And so was Angie, who recommended it to me in the first place! It’s very well-written, smart, funny, engaging… It’s taking me ages to get through a book at the moment but it’s not the book’s fault.
I was doing so, so well on my Around the World in 12 Books Challenge, but I didn’t get a SINGLE book read for it in September (Brazil), and
I don’t have a SINGLE book set in Egypt within reach this month so it looks like I’ll be skipping October too! Silly me, October is China and I do have a couple books to read for it! But I’m still missing Egypt books for November, whoops.
Can’t say what I’ll read next, I’m really just taking it book by book and going for whatever I feel in the mood for. How about you?
