With the glut of so-called dystopian fiction on the YA market lately, it’s clear that many publishers are throwing the label around willy-nilly, perhaps because it sounds better than “post-apocalyptic science fiction”, which is what most of these books really are. But what IS a dystopia, really?

Monthly Recap = April & May

I could have sworn I did a Monthly Recap post for April, and only just now discovered that all I really have is a saved draft of my template, not even filled in! Ugh. So I’m combining April and May this time, which should also make my reading tallies look a bit less pitiful. Work has pretty much taken over my life these days and the only reason I get any reviews posted at all is because of book tours (an unexpected side-effect!).

Books Read This Year (by End of May): 35
Books Read in April & May: 10 including:

    Adult Novels: 7
    Children’s/YA Novels: 3
Picture Books (new): 0 (refers to new, bought picture books, not re-reading old ones or library copies – which I do a lot of!)
    Non-Fiction: 0

Total Books in My Library as of End of May: 3761
Total Books Added to My Library in April & May: 26 (look how good I’ve been!) including:

    Review Copies Received (print): 9
    Books Won: 0
    Kindle E-books: 0
    E-books From Netgalley: 2

Favourite Book Read in April or May: The Secret River and Dreams of Gods & Monsters
Most Disappointing Book: Torn? I liked it but, yeah, a bit disappointing.
# Books by Female Authors: 9
# Books by Male Authors: 1
Currently Reading: AmalgaNations by Doug Hendrie (non-fiction) and Enmity by EJ Andrews (YA)
Books Read for TLC Book Tours: 2
Books Read for iRead Book Tours: 2
Books Read for Challenges:

Around the World in 12 Books Challenge – 0
    Canadian Book Challenge – 0
Australian Women Writers Challenge – 2
    Read-alongs – 0

Books Read in April

26. The Publicist by Christina George
27. Shelf Life by Christina George
28. Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor
29. The Secret River by Kate Grenville

Books Read in April

30. Torn by Karen Turner
31. The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
32. John Dreamer by Elise Celine
33. Slave to Love edited by Alison Tyler
34. Fallout by Sadie Jones
35. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

As you can see, I’m massively behind in posting reviews – still have some from February to do, too! It gets so that I can’t remember what I was going to say about them, sigh. How was your reading month?
