With the glut of so-called dystopian fiction on the YA market lately, it’s clear that many publishers are throwing the label around willy-nilly, perhaps because it sounds better than “post-apocalyptic science fiction”, which is what most of these books really are. But what IS a dystopia, really?

I was surfing the web for photos of giraffes for my daughter’s afghan and came across your photo -giraffe days(which I think I will turn into a poster for her) and thought this was amazing. I can no where claim to have that many books as three children prohibit a lot of daytime reading, but I have had the opportunity to read a series written by Jean Auel(which took me over two years as the last book was just released last year! If you have never read the clan of the cave bear series-my opinion a wonderful eye opener into neanderthal man and the evolution of the homosapien.

    Shannon Reply:

I know the series you mean, my mum and one of my sisters love it and I finally got a copy of the first book a couple of years ago, but I haven’t got around to reading it yet. I remember seeing the books around a lot when I was a little kid – amazing how long it took her to finish those books! I’ll add your recommendation to my motivation to read it, thanks! 😀
